#waitingforShirley

“Reader, when you behold an aspect for whose constant gloom and drown you cannot account...be sure that there is a canker somewhere, and a canker not less deeply corroding because concealed.” Love this advice - you never know someone‘s story. More than likely there is a reason that has nothing to do with you. Doing a little sunrise reading and still #waitingforshirley to appear. #shirlitesunite

Blaire Yes - finally a mention of Shirley!!! 6y
andrew61 Just read that part and carolina is clearly a lovely character who seems to understand the loneliness of miss mann. A nice quote. 6y
merelybookish I noted that passage too! I liked that whole chapter on Old Maids and seeing beyond that label. 6y

LeahBergen I‘m ALMOST at a Shirley spotting (I peeked ahead out of desperation 😆😆). 6y
Blaire @andrew61 @merelybookish Agreed. I love the perspective she brings and how she is willing to look beyond stereotypes. 6y
Blaire @LeahBergen right!?! I wanted to give a little shout out loud when her name finally appeared. 6y

Almost 100 pages read and, as yet, no sign of Shirley.

merelybookish Perfect hashtag! 😀 6y
Blaire Love this!! I‘m on chapter 5...#whereisshirley 6y
saresmoore 😂 I‘m still reading Cold Comfort Farm, as well, which means there is some fun overlap, but it also means double the dialect to decipher. I mun get through it! 6y
batsy Great hashtag 😂 I just finished Chapter One last night before the book fell straight into my open, snoring mouth 😆 But now I'll keep in mind that we will be #waitingforShirley 6y
rubyslippersreads @saresmoore Add The Secret Garden for more Yorkshire dialect to decipher. 😄 6y
saresmoore @rubyslippersreads I had forgotten about that! I loved it so much as a child, maybe my brain just glossed over the tricky bits. 6y
saresmoore @batsy I‘ve found I have to read Genji first thing in the morning, with coffee and Shirley I have to listen to via audio first to get through the dialect bits, also in the morning, just after coffee. 🙃☕️ 6y
batsy @saresmoore Genji is my morning coffee read whenever I can, as well! And yes, I think Shirley needs to be a morning read, too :) I'm just annoyed now that there's only one of me, one morning a day, and two books (the cups of coffee, thankfully, are multiple 😂) 6y
saresmoore @batsy Amen, sister. 6y
rubyslippersreads This is the ebook edition I have. My paper copy is too old and delicate to carry with me. 😊 6y
LeahBergen @saresmoore You mun! 😆 Have you got to the Bronte biographer bit in CCF yet?? 😂😂😂 6y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads Oh, good! You‘re joining in! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 6y
LeahBergen @batsy @saresmoore Yep. I‘ve moved Shirley to daytimes reading as well! 6y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J My fave! ✈️😂😂 6y
LeahBergen @Blaire I‘m going to be inordinately excited when I first spot Shirley in the text. 😆😆 6y
LeahBergen @merelybookish I can no longer stop myself from thinking of variations. 😆 6y
merelybookish @LeahBergen A character just complained about "womanites" which got me thinking about new hashtags. ?? 6y
saresmoore @LeahBergen Yes! I‘m sure I‘ll learn all about the truth of Branwell accommodating Anne‘s excessive drinking in 6y
