so-soParts were entertaining, but it also felt like it could have been at least a hundred pages shorter; nothing much happened until at least halfway through, and...I don‘t know, the characters were likable enough, but overall, it felt like it was missing something. It‘s getting a little bit better; the characters are amusing enough. But Krahn uses the same descriptors over and over again, and it‘s like “you describe every little detail SO COULD YOU PLEASE COME UP WITH SOME NEW WORDS TO USE?” It‘s not the worst thing I‘ve ever read, but I can‘t wait to get to something else, because it‘s not like I don‘t know exactly how this‘ll end. #themarriagetest #betinakrahn

But it‘s also so ridiculous that it‘s like “...oh, come ON.” A convent cook who‘s an orphaned noblewoman and practically magical with food named Julia of Childress (REALLY COME /ON/), and a nobleman with such a sensitive nose that he has to wear a metal band across it to keep from smelling the world? Honestly, I‘m not all that sure I‘m going to be all that into this, but it‘s the last of the three books that the patron lent me, and I‘d feel bad not at least trying to read it after I‘ve had it for like a month.
