I started this one before the total eclipse in April of this year. I lost interest after that and just picked it up. It was definitely interesting, especially the history of how eclipses were used to help map the size and shape of the world centuries ago. It's my own fault for losing interest after seeing the eclipse. Definitely recommend if you'd like to learn more about eclipses.

Suet624 But wasn‘t the eclipse spectacular? 6d
AvidReader25 @Suet624 it was unbelievable! I think reading about it just doesn‘t have the same impact and so I lost interest. The eclipse itself was incredible. 6d

My eclipse read this past April. This one is like following a Wikipedia spiral but led by someone else's whims than your own so sometimes I was interested and invested, others not so much.

In the lowcountry (SC), we got to see 70% of this total solar eclipse. What an awe inspiring moment to be a part of. Star dust…looking at star dust! 🌞🌚

Arithmancy OWL Exam: 3.75⭐️

Written by a man who has dedicated a large portion of his life to chasing the next eclipse, the author takes you on a journey through the history of solar eclipses and the role they play in society. I loved the comments on the connections between these events and religion as well as the timeline of how science and society started observing and tracking these events

I live just down the street from downtown Lansing, Mi so I decided to go for a walk down to the capital building to clear my head. Felt really off all day but then got some great news at work that made up for it a bit. Started this nonfiction book today for one of my prompts for #magicalreadathon ! How‘s everyone doing with their OWLs?

Went to the half priced books clearance sale. With my book ban, I was able to read enough to buy 2 books. Ended up going over by 3 but I feel like I controlled myself 😂

kstadt929 Love the cover of the solar eclipse book 😍 6y
Schnoebs @kstadt929 what‘s super interesting is that when you take the dust jacket off, it‘s this awesome yellow! 6y
allureofbeauty Nice find on Miss Peregrine 💖 6y
Schnoebs @allureofbeauty it‘s in pristine condition. I was shocked! The pages are so white it‘s like it was wrapped in plastic or something tho enter time (edited) 6y
allureofbeauty That‘s awesome. I saw some movies that had never been opened too which was awesome. 6y

Pickpick

Super delayed post! This was my read during the road trip with my dad to see the eclipse. A little bit eclipse story telling, a little bit science, and a perfect read for the occasion. I picked up another eclipse book pubbed this year, but my hype may have died down now...hopefully it won't linger on my TBR for seven years. *Yes those are welding goggles and yes they are safe for solar viewing.

I couldnt finish reading this? The author has a really strong voice but I feel rather as if he spent the first half of the book mocking the people who believe that an eclipse holds religious power. He also seemed to laugh at ancient civilizations who feared eclipse's. Maybe Im just being overly sensitive but as a woman of color who was named Eyklipse Rain this book lacks the most important thing about the solar system WONDER

Anything can turn into a pinhole camera: Tree leaves above you - on the ground and on the lawn chair; your hand, and a pin pushed through some paper in your backpack. And they all get like tiny crescents! We were so excited!

ValerieAndBooks When we were outside I was amazed to see eclipse shadows on the ground coming through our abundant trees! I had no idea, it was a pleasant surprise. 7y
Blueberry Dang, was that how we were supposed to do it? Look at the little seperate holes? I used a colander and was looking at the big shape not the individual holes. Still don't know if it would have worked though. Feeling stupid. 7y
Gezemice @ValerieAndBooks I was told but I couldn't believe it. So great! Just everywhere on the ground! 7y

Gezemice @Blueberry Yep, small holes. Lol! You will know for the next one! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Awesome! Great pictures! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice You're welcome. We had a partial here, but I didn't get any good pictures.... I'm glad you did. 7y

I know you can't see this, but this is the picture of the total solar eclipse. It was amazing. The pictures do not do justice. It is not black, it is all blue! And all around you looks like the sun is setting. I mean, in every direction! It was all worth the 4 hr drive to the totality zone.

ScrappyMags I'm so mad! I live an hour from totality zone but I'm in Michigan! Lol (mom having surgery... good reason but still was bummed) 7y
Gezemice @ScrappyMags Sorry to hear that. I hope your mom will get better soon! 7y
