This little novel in verse tells a big story. What a love story to communication, caring adults, friends, nature, and poetry.

I will read anything Ann Clare LeZotte writes; this one is a modern story. Her Martha's Vineyard trilogy left me feeling so educated as a reader. I'm not obtuse to what it's like for deaf children to be born to hearing parents who don't desire to learn sign language. This book, written in verse gave me Matilda vibes (minus the magic).
I read a few pages and I‘m already in love with it 🥰👏
This is the story of Rowan, told through letters he has written & sent off with balloons to the sky. He writes about his struggles with school & family, trying to figure out how to be himself when everyone around him expects him to be the same Ellie. Such an emotional, relatable story about middle school social dynamics, the balance between trying to fit in & making true friends. Set in the 90s so plenty of nostalgia for all us younger millennials
This is a dark story about sexual abuse. Kaeleigh & Raeanne are twins from a prominent family. The secrets in this family run deep. The twins are the victims of their parent‘s abuse and neglect. How does a 16 year old girl cope with so much trauma in her life? Ellen Hopkins uses verse powerfully to tell their story. Fast paced and disturbing, this book will stay with you. Check trigger warnings - there are many. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ❤️📚
I may have just figured out something about this book. 🤔🧐 Will have to keep reading to find out if I‘m right. About 25% in - it‘s dark and gritty, and full of potential triggers, but I love the way the author uses the verse. When the chapters change from one twin‘s perspective to the other, there are matching words on the opposing pages separated from the rest of the verse. So creative. It must have taken so much time and thought. ❤️📚
I didn‘t read this that long ago but already I can‘t remember a single thing about it, so I guess that speaks to its quality. All I remember is there was a weird plotline about somebody with paralysis being healed???? Weird book.
