My current stack of paperback to hardcover matches. I have rules when thrifting. One is to replace paperbacks with hardcovers then donate paperbacks to the FLLs in my neighborhood.

Sometimes I donate a mint condition paperback just to keep a well-used thrifted hardback. But #RulesAreRules !

I was so excited to find the tagged book - took me forever to find in hardback!

marleed @Cinfhen Somehow I hit my first blurb without posting a pic then had 2 posts! My theory on hardbacks is sheer number of books. I take the covers off most of my hardbacks so that they sit a bit quieter on my shelves - if that makes since to anyone but me! 6y
GinaKButler I love this and do the same thing! 6y
marleed @GinaKButler So good to know I‘m not alone out there in the world! 6y

It's morning here, and I'm back with my new feature #booksIalmostbought. As I try to reduce my out of control buying habits, I figured it'd be fun to chronicle what I put back. (Yes, eventually I'll post what I bought.)

I'm not a religious person, although I grew up that way. Mr. B is an atheist. We have lots of discussions, as I do with friends who left the same church I did. This book looked quite interesting, but ultimately was a no for now.

DeborahSmall I grew up going to church, decided they were nuts when I was 15 and left. I‘m 40 and I still think they‘re nuts! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DeborahSmall Me too, although I lasted longer than you did. 😀 7y
DeborahSmall They were/are a Pentecostal church. As well as being ‘you must be born again‘ they talked a lot about the end of the world. Going back to the same church for my grans funeral in January gave me some awful flashbacks 😂 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @DeborahSmall I too grew up in a "fringe" sort of church (or by my reckoning a cult) - Christian Science. You'll be interested in one I did buy, though. 7y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Thanks for posting- always looking for interesting books on this topic 7y
DeborahSmall @BarbaraTheBibliophage I still call it a cult and it drives my dad crazy!! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled You're welcome. I'm kind of regretting not picking this up. Oh well. #rulesarerules 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DeborahSmall I know my parents were brainwashed. They both died young and miserably sick, thanks to the cult. I never said it in front of them. Guess I was chicken! 😜 7y
Cinfhen Sounds like a fascinating read! 7y
DeborahSmall @BarbaraTheBibliophage my mum was able to escape when she separated from my dad and the reason I was able to leave at age 15. A few years after I left I heard from a friend that the deacons in the church were asking the congregation to pray for a guy to be released from prison for armed robbery, but this guy I knew, had actually raped and abused his 3 kids!! I called one of the deacons thinking they didn‘t know, but they did....unbelievable 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DeborahSmall Wow! That's quite a story. I'm so glad you were able to get free from what sounds pretty abusive. I also found that my church didn't address things like abuse and general "unChristian" behavior. It all got swept under the rug of "we're praying about it." ? 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen I'm going to look for it at the library! 👏🏻👏🏻 7y
Cinfhen Library is a good call!! 7y
