This story showing a day in the life of workers in a restaurant about to shut down resonated with me. My parents had a Chinese restaurant and so much was familiar: the worries about staying afloat, the conflicts and camaraderie among staff, the disappointment when no customers show up, and then the chaos when they all come at once!

Primarily focusing on three cousins dealing with changes in their lives and their family‘s Chicago restaurant that feels more like home than their actual homes often do after the sudden death of their grandfather. I love a good messy family story and this one was great. Less about overall family dysfunction (although there is certainly some of that) and more about the overlapping lives in a large, caring ,but changing, brood. Definitely recommend.

“And, with his new friends, came a new idea. They would open up their own fancy restaurant – one with the food was so good, that this time it wasn‘t Samson wearing a disguise.”

This book would be an excellent addition to anyone‘s classroom library. It could used in a lesson for the whole classroom about kindness and being unique.

This is such a cute story of an adventurous little piranha who proves to be different. Samson's quest for the perfect dining experience is very funny and will keep children laughing. A cute book to entertain and encourage children to celebrate their individuality's!

This would be a great book to read to students to not judge a book by its cover. It also encourages students to overcome their problems. Would make a great writing prompt.

Week 3: Graphia. Such a cute story about accepting everyone and how people are different. The illustrations are very cool throughout. Would definitely read again. Published Feb. 7, 2017
