Finally I‘ve read this very important book. So much sorrow from each tale, each personal tragedy. From the inability of humanity to learn and get better. Almost 40 years passed and we are no better off.

Some criticisms of David Lynch‘s Dune are that it‘s bloated and gaudy. This book, with its 500 page word count and metallic red edges is close to being the literary equivalent. I don‘t debate with anyone about Lynch‘s Dune. It‘s a weird, beguiling masterpiece that actually stands outside of the novel as a work of art in and of itself and you either like it or you don‘t. This deep dive on the making of this ambitious flop is probably for fans only.

Ruthiella I only saw the film once, I was about 13 and it so impressed me that I later read the book. 13mo
RamsFan1963 I still like Lynch's Dune, but I agree it does stand out as separate from the novel 13mo
The_Book_Ninja @Ruthiella that‘s a success in my eyes😃 13mo

The_Book_Ninja @RamsFan1963 it‘s in the Dune multiverse ☺️ 13mo
Bookwomble I love Lynch's Dune. It's its own thing, and gloriously overblown. I'm sorry he's rather distanced himself from it. A flawed masterpiece is still a masterpiece. 13mo
The_Book_Ninja @Bookwomble He says why he‘s done that in an interview towards the end, and I totally get why he has. There‘s probably over an hours worth of stuff they cut out and discarded. It‘s lost forever in a fire 13mo

This is a collection of migrants stories, their reasons to cross to the US and their problems in transit and once they reached their destination. I was more interested on the appendix than in the stories, the timeline about how US interference caused instability in central America and how their policies affected the migrants was brief but interesting.I was surprised when I went back and I saw that women's stories were about 40% of the book, because

nanuska_153 I didn't think their problems were represented. I saw on the Glossary that 80% suffer sexual violence on transit, rape being considered part of the price that women pay for travelling to the US and how they are also abused in the immigration centers. Despite this shocking percentage this theme doesn't appear at all on any of the stories chosen to reflect the lives of the migrants, having to learn about it in a Glossary makes me think ⬇️ 13mo
nanuska_153 that it had to be avoided on purpose. Overall it left me with the feeling that a better book with migrants stories has to exist, if you find it let me know 13mo
Ruthiella Have you read this? It‘s focus is children migrants, but it is supposed to be very good 13mo
nanuska_153 @Ruthiella no, I haven't, but it does look good. I'll add it to my list. Thanks! 13mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Perfectly enjoyable audiobook of the narrative history of The Big Bang Theory interweaving quotes from cast and crew interviews.

CatMS I came to The Big Bang Theory late but loved every minute of it even when Sheldon was so annoying I wanted to scream. 1y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An impeccably-researched oral history of one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Sadly, husband and I never finished the last couple of seasons (kids truly ruin tv time). I will hopefully remedy this soon! From casting, to character quirks, to contract negotiations and so on, this well laid out account covers it all. While the actors do not narrate, the full-cast audio crew did a fab job bringing this to life.

LiteraryinPA That sounds like fun! 1y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I loved this show so much ❤️ 1y
Suet624 I wish I could get into this show. Granted, I didn't try very hard but so many people I know absolutely love it. 1y

I have to admit, I only recently watched this show. I was busy with life when it originally aired, but I have now binged all seasons and needed more. 😁

This book is written in interview style, which I personally loved. It gives so much information on how the show came together, the writers, the actors, and even the struggles.

It was fun to revisit one of my favorite sitcoms and all those who made it great.

For fans of this ground breaking series, this book will take you behind the scenes, giving you an up close look of how this show came to be: the stories of the creators and the stars who gave it life, and some wonderful pictures from the cast and crew themselves. I absolutely loved this retrospective of a show that I hold close to my heart. It is truly my comfort show for so many reasons. It was a joy to take this trip through the show.

britt_brooke Reading this right now. 🫶🏼 1y
