This book spoke to something in my heart that has been trying to find its voice as I adjust to life back home after traveling around East Africa for a while...although I don't plan to follow in Richard's footsteps at the end, I miss my friends there dearly and I would definitely like to return...

The Bear in my Family written and illustrated by Maya Tatsukawa is a great book about sibling relationships. The overbearing older sibling is portrayed as a bear while the younger sibling and narrator is portrayed as a little book. This book would be great to use to talk about family relationships and the way we treat the people around us.

The illustrations within The Bear in my Family are adorable because the cartoonish illustrations portray one of the siblings as a bear and one sibling as a bear for a majority of the story. The bear is chosen to represent their more “unruly” sibling but also the sibling the protects them and keeps them safe.

“Best of all is a bear that looks out for me”

This page uses the word “roar” in big letters that stretch across the page to let the reader know it was loud.

This book is a good example of siblings and their actions to help one another.

This book was very interesting. I liked the neutral colored illustrations. It definitely has a surprise at the end that I thought was cool. It was a quick read but not as fun as it could be.
