Gah. I loved the first Detective Venn book so was looking forward to reading this one. I just couldn‘t ever get excited about it. Matthew felt like a minor character with the main focus on other detectives. That said, I feel very distracted lately so this may be a case of “it‘s not you. It‘s me.” I‘m not sure??? I‘ll still read the next book in the series. In other news, first Michigan snow of the year! #imnotready

DocBrown I've tried and tried but can't seem to get very far into the first book. Any advice or suggestions? 7y
SarahSaysRead @mdhughes72 I'd just pick a day to read a solid 100 pages or so to get really into it. I had picked up the first book I think twice before I finally really dug in, b/c the world-building requires some extra focus in the beginning. 7y

First off, I really did enjoy this book, even though the picture seems to say otherwise 😂 It's not my favorite by all means, as Cassandra Clare is an iffy author for me. I love her writing style and characters, but I wish there was more diversity and more originality. Still, besides the ending of this book, which KILLED ME, Clare really improved and added new lovable characters. My favorite was Cristina, who wasn't discussed enough in LM.
