Dodged a bullet? Cricket didn‘t due to Gun Loving Loon Kristi N. In Dead Boss Cemetery Vol. III, a gun club faces an ugly, and grotesque scene. The leader shoots her head off when her gun misfires. OH NO! It‘s time for therapy again! https://tinyurl.com/yc2kr2fn

Mehso-so

While the author did a ton of research and really dug deep her primary focus was on the deplorable people who call themselves TRUTHERS ( conspiracy theorists) but they are nothing more than troubled, sick individuals who are allowed to spew nonsense - The events at SH were so heinous and then for people to claim SH was a sham is just beyond cruel. My heart broke for the victims families but this book was not the tribute I was expecting. 👇🏽

Cinfhen It was wayyyy too long and the author went on too many side tangents about other hoaxers, conspiracies and debunkers. 1y

I‘ve read some of Hopkins‘ novels and enjoyed them! However this one was awful. It does not do what it sets out to do, the characters are one dimensional, the narrator makes too many unjustified assumptions, the language and descriptions are not only stereotypical but vulgar. I don‘t think one can condense a complex dynamic like human nature and behaviors into these tidy little packages and pass it off as ‘poetry‘.

Pickpick

Well done and really drives home the point of circular violence.

#TemptingTitles Day 13: #WithHeart - more book haul from the ongoing Big Bad Wolf book sale in Dubai. 📚📚📚

tokorowilliamwallace Nice, I still gotta get to my Deb Colletti volume. I made a haul of 5 books from an #lfl last night---plays, modern classic, historical romance, mystery, and Colson Whitehead. Traded in two nonfiction, Mentors by a celebrity, and a self-help, The Potential Principle. 2y
TracyReadsBooks My IRL book club read A Heart in a Body in Body in the World and our discussion of it was the single most intense, emotional, personal, rewarding of any book we‘ve read. Everyone loved it, everyone had something to say 2y

Bloodbath Nation | Paul Auster

^^p138, Pulse nightclub. Auster‘s passages interspersed w/ statistics & grainy b/w photos of sites of mass shootings, maybe intentional aesthetic but maybe just cheap reproductions? Maybe photos are the better presentation—straightforward, plain. Conclusion: America needs to reckon w/ past violent suppression of populations before future violence can be stopped. Okay, but how?

Pinta Also disappointing that Auster denies possibility of even incremental change through legislation, courts, enforcement of existing laws. Success in other countries, but non-starter in US? 2y

Mehso-so

Auster trying to come to terms with family history & with American history of gun violence. Novelist, not a sociologist, but analysis here feels weak. Recounting of the Sutherland Springs shooting reads like a thriller, which feels wrong considering the very mundane, methodical, horrible process of identifying & cleaning & reporting that is the reality. Section from ER doc, which could have been interesting, reduced to cryptic broken lines. 2023

Response from gun reform activist Camilla Williams: “Are we talking the sexy gun violence or the ugly gun violence? […] Where I am from it‘s the ugly gun violence where it seems no one gives a damn! It‘s hell—in order not to be scared you have to not be afraid to die.”
