Great story of D&Ds history and hownit has evolved over the years to become one of the most widely played tabletop games. Woth a good bit of lived experience from the author sprinkled throughout.

This was a fun collection of bits and bobs. I found a bunch of neat spells that of COURSE my current character (a Cleric) can‘t actually use 😂 Also liked Xanathar‘s asides and the disclaimer on the copyright page.
Finished making my personal storygraph trackers for #frozensick and #frigidwoe .

A teen retelling of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Prickly Vi Reyes masquerades as a boy on an Arthurian inspired MMORPG to avoid bullying. Jack "Duke" Orsino is football royalty who starts playing the game after a season-ending injury.
We have a GoT style TV show, a sff/gaming convention, tabletop D&D, feminism, computer gaming and both characters growing in a realistic way.
I really liked all the characters (with a few obvious exceptions).
D&D truly changed the world of strategy and RPG games. Unfortunately, the tale behind its creation was not as exciting as it had been billed to me. I felt this book was a textbook-like retelling of facts to include annual sales numbers. The game‘s very slow build from mocked fantasy game to cultural icon is interesting. Overall though I just felt like something was missing…like any type of connection to the creators.
I had no idea that this book was about video games when I started and had I known it would not have been top of my list to read. However I really enjoyed this story of friendship, the ups and the downs, highlighting how special a true friendship really is. I also enjoyed the parallel of living in the real world vs. virtual reality and how we often long for a simpler time where we can just press the ‘start again‘ button whenever things go wrong.
I was today years old when I discovered that Olivie Blake and Alexene Farol Follmuth are the same person! 😱 This is a YA story based loosely on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, so I was already pretty excited to read it! But now that I really know who wrote it I'm even more excited! 🥰
