Challenged & banned for LGBTQIA content. #bbrc

The library where I used to work had a Drag Queen Story Time. Cherry Lemonade read the book to the kids. A mom & her children showed up late & missed it. I offered to read to her kids instead. She politely declined & said it wasn‘t the same as Cherry Lemonade reading it. People try to shut down these story times, but that mom was disappointed to miss it. That mom is awesome. #dragqueenstorytime

LibrarianRyan I agree. Lately across the US DQST has been interupted by proud boys bringing guns, moms of librety, etc. It's disgusting. Let people read to children. A few years ago, I suggested having the person who started the DQST and organization in New York be a speaker at our library conference. One of our planning committe members left over it. And puller her staff and all her support. It was her believe and “moral obligation“ that those types of 2y
LibrarianRyan things were not wanted or needed in central Illinois. The remaining committee decided to make one room of the conference that year, dedicated to the topic, including libraries in central IL and what worked and waht didn't.
