“When conducting a focus group, take group dynamics into account. Whenever you gather two or more people into a single interview, these individuals will rarely act as true equals. Some participants are likely to dominate the conversation. Others may be reluctant to express their views, perhaps because they‘re shy or feel uncertain about the validity of their perspective.”

"What would an ideal relationship be like for me? Who am I but common and collected desires bound by sociocultural norms? What is a 'normal' relationship? What kind of role models do I have for alternative and radical relationships? What are my boundaries, self-imposed or otherwise? What am I scared of?" -Wendy-O Matik, "Redefining Our Relationships"

Day 14: #time

I am grateful for all the time the fellow members of my virtual thesis/dissertation accountability group spend working with me, commiserating with me, and supporting me!

Challenge! A friend with the initials DE is doing our local library‘s reading challenge and one of the categories is “an author with your initials.” To make it extra challenging, my friend wants to only read books by women and POC. Who‘ve you read and enjoyed with the initials DE?

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Woman and POC or woman and/or POC? 5y
kgriffith @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think she‘d have said WOC if she‘s going specifically for both, so either is my guess 😀 5y
saresmoore Hmm, would Edwidge Danticat count? The initials are reversed, but I‘ve heard great things about 5y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @kgriffith ok, good point....let me rack my brain a bit.... 5y
kgriffith @saresmoore she may be a stickler for adhering to the challenge to the letter (heh), but maybe not so I‘ll pass it along! 5y
rachelm If she‘s willing to read children‘s lit, have heard good things about Deborah Ellis‘s books 5y
rwmg Wikipedia suggests Diamela Eltit (Chilean), Dorothe Engelbretsdatter (Norwegian), Diana Omo Evans (biracial British) 5y
Pamwurtzler Delia Ephron? I‘ve had this on my list for a while but haven‘t read it yet - 5y
kgriffith Thanks, everyone! From my friend: This was awesome. Please thank @rachelm, I'm going with Deborah Ellis' The Breadwinner. She seems to write mostly about the plight of young girls in war torn countries and this is about a girl in Afghanistan who disguises herself as a boy to support her family. Can't wait! 5y
kgriffith (And now it‘s going on my TBR, too 😊) 5y
rachelm Yay! So excited for her to enjoy it. 5y

The study rooms in the new branch of the public library have dry erase walls, so I left this celebration/thank you message on Friday. Came in this morning, and the librarian told me they'd posted it to the staff website!

SaunteringVaguelyDownwards The person who came into the study room after me just erased my message, and the librarian looked so sad! She said they were hoping to keep it up there. I told her I'd keep them updated. 😉 6y
