pickA crazy and occasionally infuriating read. It only lightly skimmed what went down with FTX, but gave a good overview of everything else that was going on at the time.

Started this book at random. I‘m testing out an mp3-reader (I can‘t with calling these ‘purse kindles‘). This particular one is going back because the seller lied about the OS (claimed android 13 when it‘s actually android 8. The kobo app requires minimum android 9). It fits my needs otherwise (it needs a ‘paperlike‘ screen protector and a lanyard, but otherwise…), so I‘ll be replacing it once it‘s refunded.
panSaifedean Ammous is Professor of Economics at the Lebanese American University. This book has useful summaries of the history of money and the development of Bitcoin but his arguments as to how Bitcoin meets the definition of money are unconvincing - no matter how many times he repeats his points - and his Austrian school economic arguments about Bitcoin‘s superiority for settlement smacks of wishful thinking over the real world practicalities.
pickThis was a fast mystery not mystery book. I don‘t know how else to describe it.
pickA skeptics look into the world of Crypto. An informative read. I‘m a bit of a skeptic myself when it comes to “unregulated securities”, which is what Crypto is to a degree. Betting on enthusiasm is what it is in reality. Acknowledging those who have made money from Crypto and lost. It‘s very much open to fraud. 4/5 on Goodreads.com
pickWith one successful job finished, forensic accountant Martin Hench is offered another that will make him a multimillionaire if he finds the lost keys that unlock the back door of a crypto system. He gets the big payday, but now he is caught in the middle of two warring families. I haven‘t read a Doctorow since Little Brother, but I am glad to have him back on my TBR list. A 4⭐️pick for an intriguing premise and protagonist. Looking for the next.
I was fascinated by how this book explains how the design of everyday life suits tech companies at our expense.
