pickI loved so many things about this: irrepressible Selina, her pony named Haggis, the food descriptions, the Scottish setting, and a goose named Big Wullie! The basic plot: Selina befriends a crusty old farmer when her pony keeps “planting” himself in said farmer‘s turnip field.
Selina is kind of a misfit—both her mishaps & her soft heart for outsiders are endearing. The exploration of what it means to take care of others, even when you and they ⤵️

pickGood start to October. Immersed in folklore, this book features haunting music, unholy bargains, a sea witch (of sorts), shapeshifters, ghosts, and children who fight evil with everything they‘ve got. Really unexpected and really enjoyable.
My spouse is not here to see what #nelson did—she is the gardener in our house—but I think it‘s a little bit hilarious. He did just what he does on the couch with all of his blankets, keeps at it until it‘s juuuusssttt right!

I very clearly remember reading the Mallory Towers series when I was a child, but at some point in my life, for a long time, I conflated it with the Chalet School series. A couple of years ago, I tried to find the Mallory Towers book that included a visit to Oktoberfest, only to find that it was actually one of the Chalet School books that I was thinking about!
