The Orange Fish: Stories | Carol Shields
post image

Hit up The Bookseller, a local used book store for more books to add to my shelf to read.

Found a handful of interesting ones. Usually pick books based on what I'm feeling as of recent. How do you pick your books?

A mermaid-oligist and a late night DJ cross paths.... tres charmant!
Solid 3 stars.
I think this story could have been meh if not for Carols Sheilds being its shepherd. 😬

I‘m “stuck” under a cat, so I‘ll choose some #redandwhite covers from my Kindle app. Most of which have quite a bit of black too. #dearDecember @Eggs

Leftcoastzen I‘m stuck under a cat as well , determined to pick up book that fell on the floor and grab a beer! 5y

Susanita Opposable toes? 6y
Lcsmcat @Susanita Not exactly. But I can grip a pencil, for example, and pick it up. 6y
Susanita It‘s still a good trick! 6y

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego You did great! I read Circe too. 😊 6y
Lcsmcat @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I was pleasantly surprised by Circe. Sometimes that much hype for a book means I‘m disappointed. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I loved Circe!! 6y

This isn‘t a “how can I get these two together and what obstacles can I throw in their way” novel. It‘s an exploration of what it means to love, how we as humans live with and without it, and the connection of all this to ritual and society. I love Shields‘ writing and this novel made me think.

CarolynM I read this a long time ago and liked it a lot. 6y

Reading in my husband‘s office at church as I wait for the final service. He has to do all three; I just sing at the last one. Shields is brilliant, as always.

Karisa Oh! That one sounds so good. Are you enjoying it? 6y
Lcsmcat @Karisa I am. She‘s really good at character development. 6y
Karisa Putting it on my list. Thanks! 6y
