Like Shakespeare, Carlin is meant to heard not read.
It's like a transcript of his stand-up shows and I'm glad to have it on hand; but the words mean nothing without the man.
dabbe So true! Every intonation, every syllable mattered ... and he was such a word-lover! #logophile #carlinwouldhaveknowntheword 🤣 2y
TheBookgeekFrau @dabbe such a maestro when it came to word arrangement and from jumping subject to subject seemingly randomly but always a thread to tie everything together. I mean I can hear his voice in my head, but without his facial expressions and body language . . . it's just flat. 2y
TieDyeDude I have one of his books on hand, but I don't know if I've ever read it the whole way through. One liners are good to read, but I agree a whole book doesn't work as well. 2y

TheBookgeekFrau @TieDyeDude Nope, a whole book doesn't work. But reading a few things was nostalgic fun--I miss his humor. 2y
mandarchy I read this while he was still alive and loved it. It's possible it hasn't aged well 2y
TheBookgeekFrau @mandarchy It just doesn't read well - it's better to watch him preform it; but I'm happy to have in print the reduction of the Ten Commandments down to two 🤣🤣 Good stuff 2y
