Tye uses her mother's recipes from her life as a minister's wife on Prince Edward Island to explore the intersection of biography and folklore (the discipline.) Tye is a folklorist so this is pretty dense in scholarship (more than I would have expected from the cover) but is an interesting addition to my #canadaalaska2018 reading project. merelybookish Intriguing! I'm from the Maritimes so anything from the region piques my interest. 6y

Mehso-so

I got this when it was $1.20 for Kindle, because Harriet goes on an Alaskan cruise. It was okay, a quick read, non-linear with each chapter told in a "this is your life" tone. Family secrets, money grubbing children, and one dead but not gone spouse. #canadaalaska2018

ReadingEnvy @AmyG it has some.similarities to a book my book club read a few years back 7y

Pickpick

(Actual book not in #litsy database)
For the first day of National Poetry Month, I revisted an old favorite from around the time I just started enjoying and seeking out poetry. The poet is more recently known as Adebe DeRango-Adem, and has another collection coming out this spring. My favorite poem in Sea Change is "mother octopus."
