On the Come Up | Angie Thomas
post image
Pickpick

Trying to compare THUG to OTCU, or Starr and Bri, does not do justice to this story and its characters. Bri is passionate and flawed, and I love her for it. Her determination to help lift her family out of poverty and achieve her dreams is admirable, even though some of her choices are misguided. And her mom. 💙💙 All the feels to Jay!

Cinfhen Does this read as very YA ??? I know it IS YA, but some books feel less angsty and eye rolling inducing (edited) 6y
alisiakae @Cinfhen Slightly more than THUG, but Angie Thomas focuses on a lot of timely issues in her stories: institutionalized racism, misogyny and discrimination in the music industry, police brutality, etc. And unlike a lot of YA, the adult characters are well developed. (edited) 6y
