#DeadSouls #AngelaMarsons #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024

This is the 6th installment of the Kim Stone series. There is discovered a suicide of Jeremy Roberts and Kim is forced to investigate with Tom Travis, DCI of West Mercia. Kim is not too happy about doing this investigation with Tom Travis but her boss insisted. Tom has been investigating a potential hate crime against Polish immigrant, Henryk Kowalski.

EadieB Dead Souls is a story with racism at its core with excellent character development. The plot has a few stands that begin to merge as Kim is investigating. Jacob James has been held captive in 1989 and it is not explained but the reasoning behind it is quite obvious. If you like books with plots that merge then you will love this novel. I loved all the plot twists that came together and were quickly solved. Highly recommended! 13mo

Book 21 in the Kim Stone series, not in the database yet, out in the UK on 10th December.

Yes, it‘s as good as all the rest! If you love Kim you‘ll love this one and, if you‘ve never read any before, then you‘ve got a gripping, fabulous long series to start!

This time, someone is leaving cryptic clues for the team to follow, otherwise something terrible will happen…. And can the team actually work alongside Frost?!

TrishB Excited 😁 have on pre-order! 14mo
BarbaraBB I‘ve read a few but wasn‘t really invested. Trish and you assured me it would be worth continuing but I didn‘t. Too many books etc. Now I‘m on the fence again! 14mo
squirrelbrain @BarbaraBB - it took until book 8/9 for me to get REALLY invested…. But you don‘t HAVE to read them if they‘re not for you. 😊 14mo
BarbaraBB Lol I know but every time I read your or Trish‘s reviews I want to 😂 14mo

On audio I listened to another installment of the detective Kim Stone series. I am still not convinced to continue reading the series so I quit it for now. So many books, too little time.

And now I am back home with tons of fantastic memories and the Booker longlist to look forward to!

Bookwormjillk Glad you had a good trip! 1y

Book six in the D.I. Kim Stone series finds Kim having to work without her team and with a previous partner/friend with whom she shares a strained and volatile relationship. Bones are discovered at an archaeological dig which indicate horrific injuries and multiple victims. As she digs into the past and the backgrounds of the families in the area, she begins to uncover legacies of racism and hate crimes. While Marsons is brilliant at juggling 🔻

robinb multiple storylines seamlessly and connecting the dots, she is also a master at imbuing humanity and emotion into her characters. We see growth here in just about every character on the page, we see misassumptions corrected, we see glimpses into the past of some characters‘ lives that help explain their current makeup, and we see the unmitigated cruelty and evil of racism and how it insidiously weaves its way through generations and by example.🔻 2y
robinb Marsons doesn‘t shy away from the hard truths, and there are scenes here that are horrific and heartbreaking to read. But her ugly accuracies of evil are somewhat balanced by the hearts of her strong, determined and unflinching good guys.
This series is entertaining and suspenseful while also being thought provoking and deeply felt. Exactly the combination of what I look for in a great series. 5/5⭐️ #ReadYourKindle

#GuiltyMothers #AngelaMarsons #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #May2024

Did Katie Hawne kill her mother, Sheryl? That's what D.I. Kim Stone must figure out. Katie participated in beauty pageants as a child. Another woman is dead and with Katie locked up, she cannot be the killer. The second victim also entered her daughter in pageants. Kim vows to find justice for these women.

EadieB This is the 20th book in the Kim Stone series. It investigates mother/daughter relationships. Angela Marsons did a great job of researching beauty pageants. It was a real surprise to find out who done it. The characters are all well-developed and the thought-provoking plot is one that had me reading to the very end of the book. I'm now looking forward to the next book in the series. If you like twisty thrillers then you will love this book. 2y

Yet another fabulous Kim Stone book from Ms Marsons. I always think there‘s got to come a time when one book isn‘t as good as the previous one, but they‘re always better.

This one is particularly twisty-turny, in both the cases featured. The titular storyline concerns young girls competing in beauty pageants and, of course, anything to do with mothering brings up issues for Kim.

Published at the end of the month.

This 5th series entry finds Kim struggling to find a connection between victims seemingly being stabbed at random. Meanwhile her arch nemesis, sociopath Dr. Alex Thorne, a manipulative psychiatrist she put in prison, is still pulling strings…some involving Kim and her estranged mother. There‘s always lots going on in these books, and this one is no exception. Loved seeing more of the dynamic between Kim/mom/Thorne. 5/5⭐️

squirrelbrain You‘re getting near the book that will just devastate you…. Can‘t remember if it‘s 8 or 9 (ish) but it‘s coming…. 2y
robinb @squirrelbrain Oh no!!!! 😩😩😩 I looked at the blurbs ahead at some point and did see one about a possible big loss…I‘ve sort of had that in the back of my mind ever since. Bummer… (edited) 2y
