This was a great retelling of the Biblical story of Tamar.

Fourteen year old Tamar is betrothed to Ur, the son of Judah. She is terribly mistreated by her husband and mother in law.

Worst of all, she is left widowed and childless.

Tamar does what she feels is best to insure an heir for the family of Judah.

4 Stars • "The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak" by Shannon Bream explores faith lessons from nine Biblical families, focusing on the women. It's aimed at readers seeking spiritual guidance through historical female perspectives in the Bible.

I really enjoyed this series of novellas about Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. These women were strong of faith and character and stood fast in their convictions when many around them were filled with doubt (about everything not just their belief in God). Ruth's story was my favorite.

There was a lot of bible study at the end of each story that I skipped. But as a historical fiction read--Worthy! I learned a lot.

Cuilin That sounds really cool. ( I would‘ve skipped the Bible study too.) 🤫 9mo
dabbe Gotcha as a “pick“ on the spreadsheet! 🤩 9mo

TheBookgeekFrau @Cuilin It was a lot better than I thought it would be! It leaned way more to historical fiction than religion (outside of the Bible study sections). I'm glad I read it, and if it weren't for #BookedInTime I probably would've overlooked it at the LFL where I found it 😊 9mo

Back to my #BookedInTime read. Picking up where I left off with Ruth's story.

And yay! The weather is finally cooperating for reading in my new outdoor space ☀️😎

Bookwomble That looks like a tranquil, blissed-out reading space 😌 9mo

bookandbedandtea How wonderful! I'm enjoying my (semi)outdoor space at the moment too! (It's our back porch 🤷‍♀️😁) 9mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea I love the pix you've posted of your back porch; it looks so cozy!! The winds started kicking up shortly after I posted and I'm now watching some dark clouds making their way over Pikes Peak. I think it's a sign that there's things other than reading that need seeing to 😂 9mo

This week, I‘m sharing my #weeklyfavorites. The only book I finished this month and liked was the tagged book. It‘s about all of the women in the Bible. It was interesting. I think it‘s a good book for a Women‘s Bible Study group or to read on your own for fun like I was doing. I‘m not in a Bible Study group but I still got a lot out of reading this book. This one was on my #bookspinbingo list and I can finally cross it off.

Read4life Nice pick! 🤓 9mo

Starting this for May #BookedInTime biblical fiction

Since it's 5 novellas I'm not sure if I'm going to read it straight through or break it up with some other reading 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cuilin You got this 💪 Looks great. 9mo
bookandbedandtea I read these years ago and remember being impressed with the way the author filled in the stories for these women. I especially liked Tamar's and Rahab's stories. 9mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea I'm enjoying it more than I thought. And yes, the author's storytelling is very impressive given the scraps she had to work with! 9mo

Here‘s my review for a book I just finished reading. This is the second book I‘ve read for #awesomeapril. This will also count for #bookspinbingo. This book was picked last month when the numbers were drawn so now, I can cross this one off my #bookspin list and be done with it. It was interesting but I‘m not going to reread it. Reading it once was enough for me.

I‘ve made more progress in this book for the #awesomeapril readathon. This will be my second book. I looked in the Kindle book and it says that I have 2 hours and 44 minutes left in the book. This book is very interesting. It doesn‘t feel dry or boring and it‘s not written like a textbook. I feel like this would be a good book for a Women‘s Bible Study group to read but I also think it‘s great to read just for fun which is how I‘m reading it.

Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 10mo
