Making and Keeping Creative Journals | Suzanne J.E. Tourtillott
post image
Mehso-so

3/5⭐ The designs are nice with thorough coverage of many journal-making techniques. The layout of the book is technical and heavy on text, sometimes bloated. I would have liked more photos of the finished projects. Some of the fonts are very small and/or almost illegible, making things difficult to read.

slategreyskies I think that, with a book of this nature that is supposed to be both informative and inspirational, it would be tough to do the subject justice without a lot of photos. I mean it‘s a book on a visual creative form. How could they skimp on the pics? Hope the next one is better! 📚💕 6mo

My #library has more donations than we‘ll ever sell at our booksale and since we‘re going to be having an #alteredbook contest this summer, I made an example. Everything is made from the book, except the mini book covers, which I printed out, and the little paintings, which I printed out and glued onto some plastic buttons I had laying around. And since it‘s a Strike book, I was able to sneak my signature in it 🥸

(Part 2)

Many themes emerge, those of the nature of art, repurposing, love, death, illness, despair, bliss and many more. Philips has created intricate and important images on each page which reflect, mirror and encapsulate the chosen words on the page. It reads almost like a hybrid book; a poetic novel and is challenging but breath-taking.

(Part 1)

A Humument is the work of a decades long creative endeavour by Tom Philips which started as a simple challenge to himself in 1966: to find a second-hand book for threepence and alter every page. From this came several different versions and from the pages of an old Victorian novel called A Human Document, a new story emerged. Philips‘ new book follows the story of a man called Bill Toge and his love Irma.

Suet624 This sounds so interesting. 12mo

A Little White Shadow | Mary Ruefle

I wanted to kick off the rededication of my mornings to poetry with something unassuming & undemanding; I thought white-out poetry/found poetry would do the job nicely. It did…too well, in fact. 😅 I was more ready for more words more quickly than I imagined. While a few of these caught me (p.8, 18, 22, 33), most felt like more like thin gibberish & happenstance rather than careful craft. Still, I imagine creating them was a simple pleasure.

vivastory I really like Ruefle, but this is one of my least favorites. A good erasure poetry collection I recommend is Matthea Harvey's Of Lamb. 3y
monalyisha @vivastory I have two others of hers I‘m planning to try! Trances of the Blast & Dunce. After I read her poem “Red” (the one that plays off of William Carlos Williams), I knew I had to read more. 😍 Thanks for the erasure poetry rec! 3y
vivastory I haven't read Dunce, but Trances etc does not disappoint! I hope it works for you. 3y

Hey if I tagged you below, I can not find where you showed off your #alternednightmareswap package. You may have already contacted your senders about it, but I have to ask. Have you opened them? are you willing to show us, or has something happened. If you need to talk to me, feel free to email: MissRyanAF at Gmail dot com.

kaysworld1 @LibrarianRyan Hey there I've just checked mine and your tagged in mine and you commented on it xx 3y
LibrarianRyan @kaysworld1 sorry I don‘t know how I missed it searching for it earlier. The funny part is I can‘t even see any of the comments I made on it except the one I just did. Litsy has been weird for me though so that must be it. Thank you. 3y

My hastily assembled bouquet which will be the last one of my summer flowers. Had to try and save some before it snows tomorrow (sigh) 😔. This book is a little overly complicated regarding artistic tools, but it does give lots of ideas on how to broaden your ideas and try new things. From rubber stamps, to sketching, or making intentional coffee stains, lots of inspiration for the taking!

4/5⭐ While it is a little intimidating for a beginning crafter because of all the recommended tools and art theory (given the author's art background), the author does a fantastic job of making it all understandable. I like the way the author portrays journaling as a mindfulness experience and offers concrete methods and examples depending on the creator's goals.
