This incredibly detailed and researched book describes how innocent people were victims of misguided religiosity, ignorance, bigotry, and misogyny. Even in modern times, powerful people use the fear of demonization and the unknown to exploit and control people. Today‘s social and political climate continues this persecution and the term "witch hunt" has been twisted by the rich and the powerful when their own actions are called into question.

WildAlaskaBibliophile What a beautiful house! 2w
LiteraryinPA It‘s the worst to be all ready for trick or treaters and then barely any come! 2w

ShelleyBooksie Love the display!! 2w
mcctrish @AmyG @LiteraryinPA there is a neighbourhood walk for houses registered to win a prize for decorations that is one street over where my in laws live, they had 160+ kids and turned off their lights at 7:15 and we are a ghost town 🤣🤣 (edited) 2w

KadaGul @mcctrish You are just like Mom. In early 2000s, My sister and I were older, so we would start Trick-o-Treat later; my brother was younger, so he would start early. Then he would be with Mom handing out candy. My mom would be so disappointed if many Costco bags of chocolate and candy weren't gone by Sundown. She would say, we went through all the candy when you girls were growing, you age group weren't picky. (edited) 2w
mcctrish @KadaGul it‘s not that they aren‘t coming early, it‘s that they aren‘t coming at all 2w
KadaGul @mcctrish In the 2010s, closer to our subdivision, we started to have competition, and they went all out. So compared to them, our house wasn't looking 👀 as scary 👻. However, we covered the front windows 🪟, door 🚪 , garage door 🚪, front porch, and yard in spooky 👻 decorations, but we couldn't compete with the Mini Haunted houses in and around our subdivision. 2w
KadaGul @mcctrish I know the trends have gone down. Now, trick-or-treats are starting early in the park district and small-town downtowns. I took my nephews 2 weeks ago for Algonquin‘s Trick-o-Treat; they closed off part of the main street and had many businesses handing out candy. We did that because we had a party for my youngest nephew this past weekend. 2w
AmyG In NJ my street was nuts! One house made caramel apples, one had a haunted house in their garage, next door did cotton candy. Kids would bypass my house to go to those because we just gave out candy. 🤣 @Kadagul @mcctrish (edited) 2w
mcctrish @AmyG our neighbours across the street had 30 more kids than us, they can‘t figure it out cuz we have music and skeletons and are well lit, her side is just pumpkins in the dark 2w
AmyG @mcctrish It makes no sense. Kids!!! 2w
mcctrish @KadaGul I know the daylight savings time push out until this weekend means it‘s light at 6 so kids wait until later to go out ( it should be dark for trick or treating, I get that ) it‘s just crazy that a street over it‘s hundreds of people and across the street from us it‘s more too ( I‘m giving out full size chocolate bars too ) 2w
DogMomIrene We had 34 kids, which seems comparable to last year, which was our first Halloween in our new home. We‘re on a cul-de-sac, but we were handing out candy that one of the moms said kids love, so maybe next year we get more kids. 2w
mcctrish @DogMomIrene we did get some more kids later ( after they went to the houses on the tour? ) and our numbers were up from last year so maybe my full size chocolate bars are catching on 2w
DogMomIrene @mcctrish Yep! That same mom mentioned that another house was handing out granola bars. My husband told the kids to grab 3-4 treats from each of our two bins. Mom was like, “You‘re singing their song”😂😂😂 So I bet full size candy bar news got spread in your neighborhood! 2w
