Out of My Mind | Sharon M. Draper

Pickpick

Out of my mind is a great novel if you enjoy realistic fiction. It is written by Sharon M Draper and has won the Coretta Scott King award. This story gives you great insight into the mind of a child who cannot speak, write, or walk. It would be a great story to use as a LC or even IR. The ESOL strategy I would use would be 6. Continually monitor students‘ comprehension. This story is so much of a relatable and real life story, students should be able to connect to the story, while using the UDL strategy: highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. Focusing on those main ideas and relationships while monitoring their comprehension with the story will be very beneficial.

DrSpalding I believe all teachers should read this book! You can use it as a literature circle option but obviously as a read aloud or independent read as well. Your # is incorrect here. 5y
