This was an absolute delight of a book with unbridled feral energy. My new comfort read.

I cannot recommend the audiobook enough. The voices are amazing and the narrator gives Avra the right amount of manic, racoon energy that brings him to life.

2 ⭐This book was adorable. Small Saul wants nothing more than to be a pirate. But even after finishing pirate school, he doesn‘t have an easy life at sea. He‘s eventually kicked off his boat when the rest of the pirates realized how good they had it they go back and rescue Saul. While I like this book, I also do not like this book. I love that Saul chases his dream and makes the way he does things work into getting his dream.

LibrarianRyan However, this book shows Saul being constantly bullied by others for being different. And he takes it. He never stands up for himself. So, he is kicked off the boat and when the bullies come back going, oh, we shouldn‘t have done that he goes right back to being their best friends. I think the message in this book does not come out the way the author intended. I think there are two dueling messages one that was meant one that wasn‘t. And while I 5d
LibrarianRyan normally absolutely love this author‘s books, I think this one‘s a mess. This sounds more like a bully story where the bullies win then a story about being yourself. 5d

Stuffed full of cold and unable to breath so decided to try an audiobook. I'm hoping the unbridled feral goblin energy this book is giving isn't my fever because it's delightful

peanutnine This book has the BEST chaotic energy! Avra's shenanigans are a fun mood booster, hope you feel better soon 4d
PuddleJumper @peanutnine I'm really enjoying the audiobook. The narrator has this manic energy for Avra which is very fitting 4d

Almost the entire Irish village of Baltimore was taken captive by pirates in the early 1600s and sold as slaves in #Algeria. With little records about their lives as slaves, the author relies on a number of accounts by other slaves to try to describe what their lives could have been like. The author also posits a hypothesis that the taking was an elaborate plan of an evil mastermind who wanted to rid the coastal town of its inhabitants for his ⬇️

Texreader own reasons—and the hypothesis seems to make sense! I had heard about this historical event but I‘d never realized how many “northerners” from England, Iceland, etc were captured as slaves by Barbary pirates and not just sailors from captured boats, but hundreds of women and children. I also learned how the women may have had a better life as slaves than in the cold northern climes. Islam treated women more equally! A very interesting read for ⬇️ 4w

This book is definitely a pick! A strong historical fiction book set in 1667 that follows a kidnapped Hector Lynch as he is sold into slavery. It is written well and about such an interesting time period. I learned a lot about this time from reading this book. Slaves seemed to be sold and captured everywhere and by everyone. Felt like Hector was a little too lucky at times but a great book. I'll definitely be continuing this series!

Jess861 @cuilin - Great historical fiction book to learn about Corsairs and Slavery during this time period! Thanks again for the #bookedintime prompt for this one! 4w
