So if you put Anne Rice, Mark Twain and Joseph Conrad into a blender and fire it up you get this wonderful novel. A well constructed and original vampire novel this book delivers. You get an amazing feel for life in the riverboat trade in the 1850s and 60s and the tension keeps ramping up with some nice twists. A little slow in places, the great characters make up for it. Highly recommended.

Literary_Siren I kinda want to read this but I feel so betrayed with ASOIAF. 😔 6y

RJHowe #Literary_Siren I get that. But this one is a stand alone (from 1982!), all wrapped up in one volume 👍🏻 6y
