Thanks to my co-host for all those memes. Loved this book. I find that Eve really is growing in her friendship and family relationships. Yay for Peabody. #IDLR buddy read @StayCurious

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 17 Ch.16-23/Review. The final chapters, as Eve was closing in, kept me on the edge of my seat. I wanted it to be Renquist - if only because I disliked how pompous and snooty he and his wife were. Characters like that bug me. And what he was doing to his poor nanny was despicable. I liked how Peabody kept pace with Eve and spoke her mind about the case. She‘s gained confidence and it makes me so proud 🥹.⬇️

StayCurious Now things will change between the two of them as Peabody becomes Eve‘s partner. Big things are on the horizon for our girl. Looking forward to the next book. 3h
ShananigansReads I was so happy when Mrs Renquist got all her attitude thrown right in her face. I‘m so happy for Peabody. I can‘t wait to see how this new partnership evolves. now

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 17 Ch.11-15: it‘s so fun to see Roarke acting like a normal guy once in an awhile- buying an overly complicated BBQ and utterly failing to cook an edible meal was amazing. Eve is fighting a losing battle when it comes to finding the killer and his next victim. She knows she won‘t catch him before he kills someone else. That‘s got to weigh heavily. ⬇️

StayCurious But having a killer who so drastically changes to imitate another is tough to track. And her suspects are not making things easy - complaining and saying she‘s harassing them. Luckily she‘s not one to back down or get intimidated. She‘ll have to really think this case through in order to solve it. 1w
Ddzmini Everyone makes it hard to believe what they say and not being truthful when ask questions is why this is going so wrong … but who is really causing these murders? 1w
TheAromaofBooks I really love the way the intensity of the mystery is balanced by the connections between the characters. Roarke wrestling with the grill was fantastic. 1w

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Book 17: Ch.6-10: this book is very much about mothers. We‘re coming off the revelations about Roarke‘s mother (and he‘s still very much dealing with that); Eve has a dream about her mother; Eve goes to Mira‘s family BBQ and gets to know her even better through the eyes of her daughter - who is feeling out Eve. And the killer this time around is killing mother figures.⬇️

StayCurious The case is very interesting this time around and I honestly don‘t know who is guilty. The killer is good - slick. And arrogant. I hope it‘s not the true crime writer because I kind of like him and think he could be helpful in this case. But who knows? I also like seeing more about Peabody - we see McNab helping her study (💕) and we see Eve giving her more responsibility. She‘s coming into her own. 2w
LiseWorks Yes, Eve's mom sounded pretty bad. Getting upset over her, touching her makeup. I think pretty much every little girl has done that. 2w
TheAromaofBooks I'm with you - I hope it's one of the slimy characters, not the author who seemed super nice!! I am loving the way Peabody is studying for her exam and gaining her self-confidence. She did a great job manipulating the one guy they were interviewing, too. Mira has become one of my favorite characters in the series - I'm so touched by the way she cares about/for Dallas. 2w

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 17:Ch.1-5: A very gruesome murder this time where the killer, smug and arrogant, leaves a note for Eve. She‘s the best and he wants a worthy adversary in what he sees as his game. He imitates the most famous serial killer in history, Jack the Ripper, who was never caught. So far, all Eve has to go on is expensive stationery he used for the note.⬇️

StayCurious This brings her to several interesting characters- all of whom have weak alibis. I tend to lean towards the UN guy - he was a little too cool for me. But it‘s early days yet. Peabody is training for her detectives exam - and when she gets sick at the crime scene she beats herself up about it. I think it shows a good cop who can still be vulnerable. I‘m glad Eve did not chastise her for it. ⬇️ (edited) 3w
StayCurious Eve has her own way of blowing off steam - a bit of self care and hand to hand with Roarke. It‘s good that their home is her safe place. 3w

LiseWorks It was hard for me to read about this murder, and I still really do not know who it could be. Why use expensive stationery. This guy sounds arrogant. 3w
Ddzmini @StayCurious I agree with you about Eve … and isn‘t it great that Roarke gives her the ability to have that … not just the self care and hand to hand but to know how to help her in that way 3w
TheAromaofBooks I love the way Eve supports Peabody and doesn't expect Peabody to be exactly like Eve. The whole doughnut scene cracked me up. 3w
ShananigansReads @StayCurious I like what you said about her vulnerability making her a good cop. It shows she doesn't just see a victim she sees an actual person who despite what they did in life did not deserve to die like that.

The UN guy is super sus.
