It was 30 degrees when I left this morning and it‘s supposed to be 70 when I get off work! I decided it was time to get off my lazy butt and walk to work despite that I have to walk with the students.
Anyways, I‘m listening to SoA right now because my therapist of all people wants to talk about Circe. He has a total crush on the narrators voice. He said I needed to read this one first though. #audiowalking #noexcuses #ItsGreatToBeAHawk
Second book that I‘ve read with the 10th grade English class that some of my social comm students are in and it was just as gut wrenching as the first one we read (Sold).
This is an extraordinary account of a boy who survived being a child soldier, rehabilitated by UNICEF, and was able to be repatriated. Only to then find himself in the face of war again and forced to leave Sierra Leone for good. #ItsGreatToBeAHawk
Finished this in time for tomorrow‘s advisory. Our school is kicking off a kindness campaign for the year by having a school wide viewing of the movie. I put off reading the book because I didn‘t want all the feels, but now I‘m glad I did! 💖 #ItsGreatToBeAHawk
I‘m not really on a YA kick at the moment but I‘m trying to read the books that the students I monitor are reading in their classes. This lets me anticipate any triggers they may have and prepare accordingly. It also helps me help them with their class work. These are the first two books on deck. #SpecialEdRocks #AllStudents #ItsGreatToBeAHawk
Totally forgot to post this yesterday. 😬
1. Art class final project. The students are making sculptures by wrapping themselves in packing tape.
2. Alien abducted teenagers forced into zoo like entertainment areas and typical YA Stockholm syndrome.
3. YA but also #romantsy and epistolary novels and time travel and sometimes memoirs and history if done right.
4. Yesterday was sunny and 86f
5. Nothing yet!

Albuquerque peeps: need an excuse to go to Barnes and Noble this weekend? My school (Volcano Vista HS) is having a fundraiser. Don‘t live in Albuquerque but still want to help? Order online or go to your nearest B&N and use the book fair ID 12295259 Thank you so much in advance. As always, it‘s great to be a hawk!
Instead of a walkout our school held a “fire drill.”From there they rang a bell once a minute for 17 minutes. On the 17th bell the released 17 burgundy and orange balloons. For 17 minutes our principal talked to the students encouraging them to talk to us and to let us help them. She encouraged them to vote, to stay strong and most importantly voice their opinion. We have an awesome school filled with amazing students. #NationalWalkoutDay
Since the East is hogging all the snow, I was able to walk to my new school today. I‘m loving the fact that I don‘t have to drive to work anymore! I had an audiobook to keep me company and this super soft, warm, comfy hat that my #litsypenpal made me. I couldn‘t ask for a better start to the day! #ItsGreatToBeAHawk
