pickAfter the events in book 1, Hella returns to 1950's Helsinki, having been kicked out of the police and working as a private investigator. When she is asked to look into the murder of a sex worker, she quickly clashes with two police officers who were involved in her dismissal. A very enjoyable crime novel set in 50's Finland, which alternated chapters from hella and one of the officers. Will read book 3 soon.

First, some backstory. Depending on how long we‘ve been Litsy friends, you may or may not know that I had a little house rabbit for 12 years. Her name was Moxie. A common nickname for her was “Moomin.” Understandably then, I‘ve been meaning to read a Moomin book for a long time! 👇🏻

pickFor #foodandlit this month I chose Evil Things, the 1st book in the Hella Mauzer crime series. It is set in 1952 Finland & Hella is a police officer sent to an isolated town on a missing persons case which turns into a murder case with Soviet spies & government coverups. Hella herself is very flawed, & although this book is rather dark & depressing at times, I enjoyed it & it had a satisfactory ending. 4⭐️ #Finland 🇫🇮

I enjoyed this dystopian crime novel about a man searching for his wife in Helsinki. In the days before Christmas the world is falling apart, climate change is a done deal, and the police don‘t have the resources to look for a missing woman. A quick read, perfect for holiday reading when you don‘t want to think too hard.

I visited Helsinki for a week this November/December and had some very lovely local food (and lots of Glögi 😇) there.
Also bought loads of Moomin books and merchandise 😊
