Fascinating book! A rich buffet for word-nerds, a collection of essays on e.g: ASL; the rules of Icelandic naming; the Manx language; details of translating Les Murray's poetry into French; Esperanto; the grammar and syntax of phone-speech; the work of Georges Perec (appropriately excluding the letter "e"); and his own synaesthetic language of number.
(I'm considering the possibility that I have a crush on Daniel Tammet's mind at this point. ?)

The Battle of Life | Charles Dickens

This is not supposed to be a very popular Dickens' book, but I really enjoyed it. It lacks many elements of an ordinary Dickens' novel--no ghosts, no morality lessons. But the humor is top notch and I found myself laughing out loud. It may be because I am an attorney and the storyline about the attorneys was drop-dead hilarious. I recommend it for that alone. Otherwise, it is a bit of a sappy happy story, part of which takes place at

Texreader Christmastime. The theme: sisterly love prevails! And attorneys are a hoot!

Someone published this book as an annotated and illustrated version. The annotations are about all the criticisms (oh heavens, it doesn't follow the Dickens' model!) and the illustrations are completely unrelated to the story (see cover for example). Some illustrations are idiotic and childish. Please, skip this version (not tagged).

I absolutely love Dickens‘ way with words! Even if he is describing someone of my profession (law) in such a dastardly way

Even when Dickens doesn‘t have supernatural elements in his Christmas stories, he still does.

🍇 The Pharaoh, which I got when my aunt was going through my late uncle's library and gave away several of his books.
🍑 No reason, I'm interested in it, I just haven't got round to reading it yet. It's also been on my #bookspin lists forever 😂
🌶️ The Other Bennet Sister, North and South, Sanditon -- all #pemberlittens buddy reads.
I'm having trouble locating some of the emojis so I've made some substitutions 😇

Eggs Love this 🍇🍇 3y

Interesting story of the peasant Pak and his family and friends, about the culture and religion of southern Bali just before the Dutch invaded and took the area. Very beautiful descriptions. I'd recommend it. Also, it's my one year Litserversary!

I'm going to try this old novel by the German author of “Grand Hotel,“ which was in a Little Free Library in my area. Looks promising.

I read this in German (from Project Gutenberg) - my German is rusty and I would probably have served myself better reading a version with notes to help with some of the unfamiliar words and poetic sentence construction that needed unboxing to make sense.

A pleasant story poem about a young man who falls in love with a refugee from the French Revolution despite his father's misgivings.

Mi tre ŝatis tiun ĉi libron. Ĝi estas tradukita verko de James Fenimore Cooper's “The Bravo.“ Mi vizitis Venezio en 2006, do mi ŝatas legi rakontojn kiuj okazi tie.
