I very much enjoyed this novel. It's unique structure was an effective hook. The first section - "Mind" - finds our protagonist already dead, and follows her mind in the 10 minutes after death as it still remains active. The second section -"Body" - follows her five beloved friends as they try to give her the burial she deserves. Not perfect, but certainly a novel I will remember. Definitely recommended.

So I finally made my way through the 2017 Man Booker longlist....and if *I* were a judge, here are my rankings. #OnTo2018 #SoManyBooks #NeverCatchUp #TheyDontAskMyOpinion #ButTheyShould #EliReadstheBookers

Samplergal I‘m trying to work thru them as well. Too many books. So little time. 6y
avalinah I really did like 4 3 2 1 :) 6y
EliNeedsMoreShelves @avalinah it was definitely the biggest surprise of the list for me. A book about a dude, written by a dude, is generally not my thing. 6y
avalinah @EliNeedsMoreShelves that book pretty much has a little bit of everything. It really sums life up well, I feel. 6y
EliNeedsMoreShelves @avalinah I agree. I'm glad I gave it a chance! 6y

I did not think I was going to enjoy this book. I could not have been more wrong.

This reads like the first season of a fantastic new HBO show - dark, forboding, with a cast of characters you immediately sympathize with, making the inevitable disaster that much more raw.

This was great - don't miss it

This felt to me like two halves of two really great books that for some reason got stuck together, but didn't really belong with each other. I will be interested to see what the author's next book brings. #EliReadsTheBookers
