Pickpick

Autoimmune disease occurs when the immune system attacks the body. I have rheumatoid arthritis so I was interested in reading Dr. Anita Kass' book. Her mother was a victim of rheumatoid arthritis and died when Anita was 13 years old. At that time, Anita vowed to study the illness and one day find a cure. She became a doctor and dedicated herself to decades long research into the causes of autoimmune disorders.

EadieB I found this book to be very interesting and gave me a real understanding of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. In 2017, she was named Doctor of the Year for her research of hormone treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. This book shows her incredible determination and is a story I believe you will enjoy. I would like to thank Greystone Books for a copy which I received through LibraryThing in exchange for my honest review. 4y
FelinesAndFelonies I have Lupus and Sjogrens and it makes me feel positive to know there are doctors out there who aren't satisfied with strictly managing symptoms. AI diseases are tough and I feel like many people don't "get" how sick you can be when you're still standing. Positive and healing vibes sent to you. ? 4y

EadieB @FelinesAndFelonies Thanks! Same to you! A lot of male doctors are not interested in studying autoimmune diseases are a majority of sufferers are women. The author hit many obstacles because of this reason but she kept fighting and opening other doors in order to get her research done. 4y
BookwormM I have Ankylosing Spondylitis which is a form of inflammatory arthritis affecting all joints and especially the spine and just for fun it also affects the eyes. I am eternally grateful for the research and medication available to me that my grandma with RA never had. I use an injectable biological to stop my immune system attacking me. Love to my fellow spoonys @FelinesAndFelonies @EadieB 4y
EadieB @BookwormM Love 💕 to you too! I take Humira, methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine and they work well for my RA. In the back of this book there is a description of all the autoimmune diseases so I was able to learn all about them. I‘m thankful too for the current medications that allow us to function so much better than in the past. 4y
BookwormM Imraldi, methotrexate and several different eye drops for me thinking I may be mid flare at the moment as I am almost overwhelmed with fatigue spent most of the weekend sleeping which I resent but hubby says I should embrace 4y
