I‘ve read this book no less than a dozen times — a few years ago, a friend gave me this beautiful first edition for my birthday #didion #joandidion #playitasitlays #LA

I feel like the word ‘worldbuilding‘ is never used for non speculative fiction novels, but I adore Joan Didion‘s worldbuilding and the slightly melancholy versions of America she puts together. I couldn‘t believe this was her first novel, it felt so effortlessly well put together.

5🌟 This book gave me all the Didion feels. A gracious and astute collection of essays examining Didion, her work and Los Angeles through her eyes and other LA writers. I thoroughly enjoyed every essay in this book. It was so interesting to read how these authors connected with Didion and with LA. I highly reccomend this one! And It's ok if your not a Didion superfan, although you might be by the end of this book. #bookreview #bookstagram #didion

I received this Nook almost 6 years ago now, for my 19th birthday. I never really used it, though. I pulled it out a few days ago because I thought it may come in handy during the honeymoon cruise we are leaving for tomorrow. It still works great! Now I‘m excited about it because I can read all of this great, free classic literature! (Open Library is awesome by the way). Now I‘m just excited about what I can access, regardless of the format.

Leftcoastzen @2BR02B I think Slouching towards Bethlehem (essays) and Play It As It Lays (novel)Documentary Joan Didion:The Center Will Not Hold is great on Netflix 7y
2BR02B @Leftcoastzen I hadn't heard of that documentary, but I'll check it out. Thanks! 7y

Watched and loved the documentary Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold. Then spent over $100 on the biography and her complete works because I'm not ready to leave her company.

DivineDiana I watched it yesterday and was enthralled with Joan! I own two of her books, but watching the doc had me wanting more! 7y
