This is full of really good information. It was a cool idea to look at the rest of the continent during the pivotal year of 1776. The British colonies turned United States were only really mentioned to point out that they made up just 4% of the continent, but they‘re all we ever hear about. Unfortunately for this book, it is dry as hell. This book is a prime example of why 99% of students hate history.

Apparently, in the 18th century, Russians would make fur clothing out of just about anything, including DOMESTICATED CATS!!!

It‘s interesting to read about how very clueless the colonists were as to what lay to the West. Some folks claimed in the 1600s that‘s they stood on top of the Appalachian Mountains and was the sails of ships on the Pacific Ocean in the distance, and this was the prevailing thought throughout the revolutionary period. No lie.

CSeydel Okay, I wasn‘t trying to start a fight. It‘s true that you can see Russia from parts of Alaska. I‘m not really sure why that‘s a facepalm, compared with some other things she said. 4y
GingerAntics @CSeydel it‘s a face palm because seeing another country isn‘t foreign relations experience. Instead of being honest that she didn‘t have any, but she brought other things to the table, she said you could see Russia from Alaska. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 4y

This is one of the many books I read in course work for my masters degree. Of course, like pretty much all of those books, I remember the cover and not much else. There really is something to taking your time with a text. This author actually has another book coming out in February that sounds really good, so I‘m hoping to reconnect with this text in the next month (instead of the week I had to read it, discuss it, and drop it before).
