Tedious. Read the last ten pages first before deciding to take the plunge.

Found this on a free book trolley this morning in the lobby of the library where I work sometimes. Free books are always nice.

I‘m vacationing and visiting my daughter in England, so I plan to have a low-key and relaxed #20in4 readathon, with only a couple of hours of reading each day.

However, I‘m having fun doing book-related things, like seeing today a couple of places where the Father Brown series is filmed.

Ruthiella Love bookish adjacent tourism! 2y

kwmg40 @Ruthiella Me too! I‘m in Oxford right now and the literary references are everywhere! 2y
kwmg40 @Andrew65 We were in the Cotswolds (near Moreton-in-Marsh) when those photos were taken and we‘re in Oxford now. So many things to see and do in England! 2y
kwmg40 @bthegood Thank you! We are having a wonderful time so far. 2y

Pickpick

I didn‘t read the entire collection, but I will be. Father Brown is a very like-able character. It‘s an interesting take to have a Catholic priest solve mysteries! ☺️ He explains that after listening to confessions for as long as he has, he knows the hearts of men better than most. I always enjoyed the reveal and the recurring character of Flambeau. I don‘t think this is a collection you read all at once but over time.

mabell I agree. I read (and really enjoyed!) a few stories, but the book has since been residing on the shelf. Great mysteries, but too much to read all at once! Ironically, my mom called a couple of days ago to say she just read a story about a Father Brown, and he outsmarted a criminal- it was such a great tale! I replied there are plenty more where that came from 🤣 So funny, twice in one week this book has come up! 3y
AshleyHoss820 @mabell Yes, definitely! I think they‘re good to pick up and put down sporadically, but definitely not a binge read! Oh my gosh, though, I love that story! Maybe it‘s time for you to take Father Brown off the shelf! 😂☺️ 3y
tokorowilliamwallace Yay, Chesterton! Though I prefer his voluminous and prolific essay collections. His thought process is just so fun to experience and trace, as with Slavoij Zizek. 3y

AshleyHoss820 @tokorowilliamwallace Interesting! I‘ll have to give that a look!! ☺️ 3y
mabell I think you‘re right - time to read more Father Brown! But I promised to pass on the volume to my mom, so it may be a bit. 😂 3y
AshleyHoss820 @mabell The best thing about books is that they‘re there when you‘re ready for them! ☺️ (edited) 3y
