I very much enjoyed this novella of the Salem witch trials. Written in the 19th century about events of the 17th century, Gaskell's account is not lurid, rather it is level-headed and historically quite accurate. While Lois's story is clearly fictional, Gaskell did her research as the book hews closely to actual events.
I'm going to get around to reading Gaskell's full-length novels soon! #BookishLiesITellMyself
