The Oh Canada book club officially kicks off tomorrow with Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese. We will select a book to read every two months and I will post a small discussion at the end of each book for those who wish to participate. I'll probably post a vote for the next book near the end of January. This is about as low key as it gets and everyone is welcome!

I look forward to discovering and exploring Canadian authors and books with you all!

3 books that are written by Indigenous authors. Comment on what book you‘d like to read if you want. All 3 books, even though they are fiction, will give some insight into the lives and culture of indigenous peoples in Canada as well as how they have been treated. Indian Horse came out a while back so may not be easy to find outside Canada.
All are welcome to join. Let @Jess861 know.

Jess861 Thank you so much for the re-post :)! 2mo

I feel all three of these books (even though they are fiction), will give some insight into the lives and culture of the Indigenous peoples in Canada as well as how they have been treated. Indian Horse came out a while back so I'm not sure how easy it will be to find outside of Canada.

All our welcome to join - let me know if you want to.

KathyWheeler I‘m fine with any of them. Just an FYI, my library, in Alabama, has Indian Horse as both a print book and an ebook (through Hoopla). 2mo
Readergrrl Since it‘s heading into the winter months, how about Moon on Crusted Snow? 2mo

LiseWorks Oh my goodness, as a Canadian, I think I want to do this, by the way, I painted this. It's Mareign Lake in Alberta. Can I be included? 3mo
Kitta Also Canadian and having trouble thinking of food that‘s not French Canadian! 😂 What are people planning to eat? Maple syrup? Canadian bacon? I‘d highly recommend butter tarts but idk where you can find them. 3mo
Kitta @LiseWorks oh wow you painted this? Beautiful! 3mo

LiseWorks @kitta, I'll post a photo of it for you to see. Also I'm french Canadian, lol, but I can cook all kinds of recipes that will have maple syrup, bacon but not necessarily french Canadian 😋 3mo
Liz_M @Kitta Poutine? 3mo
Kitta @LiseWorks Id love to see it! I always get asked about what actually is Canadian food lol. I think beavertails and maple syrup on snow when I think of home. 3mo

Repost for @Jess861

Looking to see if there would be any interest in a bookclub or buddyread around Canadian Fiction for the year of 2025. I'm thinking a monthly or bi-monthly book to read at your own pace with some discussion at the end of the month. If anyone is interested, just comment below :).
