Assuming it stayed fairly accurate to true life, the parents and family of Helen sure didn‘t help, as they just gave in her tantrums, feeling badly because she was unable to understand why they might deny her what she wanted. It‘s short, but it has made me want to read more, probably nonfiction. I liked that there was a broad continuation at the end of the book that quickly explained more of Helen and Annie‘s lives together.

#FallTreasures. Catching up

Looking through a list of books #PublishedYearYouWereBorn makes me feel SO old! This was one of my favorite books growing up & I borrowed the pictured edition incessantly from my grade school library. I‘m still not sure how I never ended up buying a copy through a Scholastic book fair! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Eggs 💙🥰👏🏻📚 3y
Daisey I have this exact edition from my mom‘s childhood library, and I loved reading it as well. 3y
LeahBergen I still have that very edition! 3y
DebinHawaii @Daisey @LeahBergen Lucky! I‘ll have to track a copy down one of these days! 🤗 3y

#ConflictedWorlds Day 4: #PersonVsDisability - In just a few pages, both author and illustrator captured the essence of Helen‘s travails and triumphs from childhood to old age, her disappointments and her steadfastness. I was able to catch a glimpse of her refreshing wit while she performed on stage, as well as marveled at her determined and willful spirit through her many advocacies. Annie Sullivan was little more than a half-blind orphan with a fiery tongue when she arrived at Ivy Green in 1887 to teach a child who was deaf, blind, and as ferocious as any wild animal. But if anyone was a match for Helen Keller, it was the girl who‘d been nicknamed Miss Spitfire. Told in first person, Annie‘s past, her brazen determination, and her connection to the girl who would call her Teacher are vividly depicted in this powerful novel.

I decided to read this book out of curiosity. I know who Helen Keller was, everybody does but I got interested about her teacher who probably inspired her. 🤔🤔🤔

This book was inspiring and amazing. It was published in 2012, and is a biography/true story of the life of Helen Keller. Although one may know some general facts about Helen Keller upon hearing her name, this book elaborates on this amazing woman's life including the struggles and successes of her life.
This book had beautiful and almost true to life illustrations. By this meaning that many of them looked as though they were photographs.

em_lemo Something that stuck out to me in this book was,
“She loved the mockingbird song and the sweet smell of climbing roses.“
I liked this because this is describing the life of Helen when she was still in her infancy years. I loved how descriptive the book was throughout, and it made me think that maybe the purpose of being so detailed throughout the book would be to allow those who may not be able to see to imagine and experience these ideas.

Annie and Helen by Deborah Hopkinson and Raul Colón is a B story. It shares the wonderful relationship of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan. This would be a great AS story because Hopkinson is an amazing author that has written quality books. I think a great resource to pair with this book is an informational article like #ucflae3414f19

cassandram https://www.perkins.org/history/people/anne-sullivan?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2-2JotPj5.... It also would be great to include clips from the movie miracle worker to show the relationship between Annie and Helen. The ESOL strategy I would be applying is 28 by providing a biography of significant women. And the UDL strategy would be 3.1 by supplying background knowledge of the two through the other articles. 5y
YvetteE A great choice for your biography! 5y
Tinks Love the bond that the teacher and student have with one another. Nice post and cute picture. 5y
Alexush So cute! I‘ve been taking ASL and i absolutely love it. 5y
DrSpalding This is an excellent choice for a biography and your image is creative! Many of my students have taken ASL and it could come in handy in future classrooms. 5y
