so-soThis is a higher so-so. I own the book but out of all of Marguerite Henry's books I've read I've only read it twice (compared to several for the others I own). I guess I just felt a little jilted after reading Misty of Chincoteague, Stormy, Misty's Foal, and others.

Read tonight for November‘s #ChildrensClassicRead2024 This was a cute story & quick read with life lessons told through animal characters. It‘s apparently a series with different animals the lead in each book. It was perhaps a bit “folksy” for me but I enjoyed it overall. 🐿️ 🤎

pickOkay, I‘m learning to tolerate squirrels more after reading this cute classic. Even if they do sabotage my bird feeders.😆 I was more fascinated to learn about author Burgess who adored nature & spent his writing life teaching children to appreciate all wildlife. He wrote more than 170 books! Plus he was big on conservatism and helped pass laws to protect migrating wildlife.🙌🏻
