Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944-1945 (Volume Three of the Liberation)
Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944-1945 (Volume Three of the Liberation) | Rick Atkinson
6 posts | 6 read
It is the twentieth century's unrivaled epic: at a staggering price, the United States and its allies liberated Europe and vanquished Hitler. In the first two volumes of his bestselling Liberation Trilogy, Rick Atkinson recounted how they fought through North Africa and Italy to the threshold of victory. Now he tells the most dramatic story of all the titanic battle for Western Europe.D-Day marked the commencement of the European war's final campaign, and Atkinson's riveting account of that bold gamble sets the pace for the masterly narrative that follows. The brutal fight in Normandy, the liberation of Paris, the disaster that was Operation Market Garden, the horrific Battle of the Bulge, and finally the thrust to the heart of the Third Reich all these historic events and more come alive with a wealth of new material and a mesmerizing cast of characters. With "The" "Guns at Last Light," the stirring final volume of this monumental trilogy, Atkinson has produced the definitive chronicle of the war that unshackled a continent and preserved freedom in the West."

Looking forward to not driving to the Jersey Shore this weekend!

The extra two hours each way not driving gives me a better chance of getting to the end of the third part of the 1,500 plus three part epic on the American war in North Africa and Europe in World War II.

I hope we win!

Karkar I hope we win - 🤣🤣🤣 7y

May not be the worst in the series (even though it felt like that) just done; tired of this series.

I have a large nonfiction section. The Liberation Trilogy includes a wide range of aspects of World War II, which I found compelling. #nerdfest #light #noteworthynovember @Jess7

This book is a long one, and for the war wonks. It's not my usual read, but this quote spoke to me.

This is my current night read. I don't usually read on an electronic device except when traveling, but I bought an Ebook because I was afraid of the weight of an 800 page book and holding it in bed. I've got until November to read it. 6% in, can I finish it in time? Stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel.

Texreader Looking forward to your thoughts! 8y

This is my bedtime read. I like nonfiction, poetry, or short stories so I don't stay up too late. But this is about 800 pages long. Hope I finish it before book club meets in November. 😜
