Wizard's Hall (Turtleback School & Library)
Wizard's Hall (Turtleback School & Library) | Jane Yolen

Poor Henry. It's not enough that his mother has sent him away from home to learn magic. It's not enough that everyone at his new school calls him Thornmallow because he's prickly on the outside, squishy within. It's not enough that the only talent he shows at Wizard's Hall is an ability to make messes of even the simplest spells.

#booktubeathon challenge #2 ✔! I am not in the target audience's age range, so I can only say it's cute but without any depth and heavy-handed on the moral. 2.5/5 ⭐ #projectTBR #projectnew

Re-read and it's as great as I remembered. 👍📚🌟

Pickpick

Published eight years before Harry Potter, this infinitely superior, stand-alone story about Thornmallow (prickly on the outside, squashy within, or is it the other way 'round?) and how he saves his school and all the Magisters and students therein hits all the right notes without needing a pile of sequels to make up the difference.
