Manservant and Maidservant
Manservant and Maidservant | Ivy Compton-Burnett
2 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
At once the strangest and most marvelous of Ivy Compton-Burnett's fictions, Manservant and Maidservant has for its subject the domestic life of Horace Lamb, sadist, skinflint, and tyrant. But it is when Horace undergoes an altogether unforeseeable change of heart that the real difficulties begin. Is the repentant master a victim along with the former slave? And how can anyone endure the memory of the wrongs that have been done?"

Mehso-so

What an odd book. Everything I read about the author‘s style is right - the baroque dialogue, the cruel family, etc. I didn‘t have any trouble finishing it, and I liked it well enough but I don‘t think I‘ll be a Compton-Burnett fanatic.

Fiction is necessary when knee deep in exams, I think, if only to remind oneself that there are words worth reading 😵

BookaholicNatty @jfount you can get through exams friend!!!! You got this!!! There is light at the end of the tunnel. I am on nursing school and just finished my semester and exam week last week was sooo stressful! My reading life is almost nonexistent when school is in session and especially when finals and exams come!! Good luck tho! I know you got this! ❤️❤️ 7y
