Banana Fish, Vol. 19
Banana Fish, Vol. 19 | Akimi Yoshida
1 post | 1 read
The final volume of Banana Fish contains the same dichotomy of darkness and light that characterizes both Ash and Eiji. Harsh reality and soft dreamlike memories find themselves hand-in-hand with heartbreak and hope, sentiment and cynicism, love and murder. -- VIZ Media

Oof. I knew this would be hard, but I thought knowing the ending from the anime would‘ve helped. It did not. This story is pain. Overall it is a tough subject matter and for a shojo, this was groundbreaking for its time and IMO still is. The characters have depth, the story feels real, and it will stay with you long after the last page.
