Sticks and Scones: A Bakeshop Mystery | Ellie Alexander
6 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
Another delicious installment in the Bakeshop Series set in Ashland, OR! Its late spring in Juliet's charming hamlet of Ashland. Spotted deer are nibbling on lush green grasses in Lithia Park, the Japanese maples are blooming, and Torte is baking a bevy of spring delightslemon curd cupcakes, mini coconut cream pies, grapefruit tartlets, and chocolate dipped almond Tuiles. Meanwhile, Juliet's friend Lance, the artistic director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, is taking center stage with his new theater troupethe Fair Verona Players. Their performance in Uva's vineyard promises to be a modern, gender-bending twist on "The Taming of the Shrew," but as the curtain rises, so do the strange occurrences. Stage mishaps and internal bickering threaten to derail the production. But the real show begins when the leading actor, Jimmy Paxton, meets his final curtain call. Now, Jules is not only in the mix, but she's going to need to craft the perfect recipe for solving this theatrical whodunit.

This series is so feel good, corny and warm. When I can‘t handle anything heavy it‘s a perfect read .

Saturday finds me at the coffee shop where I finished the long overdue ARC of the latest (Book 19!) in the Bakeshop mysteries. A good, somewhat transition addition to the series with lots of changes for Jules & the Torte crew. I won‘t give details so no spoilers for this foodie cozy series.

Trying the new “breakfast cake” on the menu (potatoes, eggs, cheese & sausage). It reminded me of the ⬇️

DebinHawaii …Huevos Rotos (Spanish Broken Eggs) Jules eats in the book (the recipe is in the back of the book). Very tasty even with the “aggressive” drizzle of garlic aioli. (I scraped some off!) 😋Also trying the lavender latte with Oatmilk today. Listening to my audiobook while writing out more # LitsyLive replies. A nice, mellow Saturday. First Book in the series: 2mo

Ashland, OR‘s opening of The Taming of the Shrew comes to a dramatic close when their Petruchio is found murdered in the wine basement.

Delightful! Juliet is charming, & her relationships w/ all her employees are so nice to see. The food sounds delicious, & I desperately wanted more of the show‘s adaptation, it sounded fascinating. The mystery is almost a B plot, as Juliet deals w/ health questions & expanding the bakery all together. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
