Falling Down
Falling Down: The Boy in the Iron Box | Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan
5 posts | 3 read
A group of mercenaries on an unsanctioned mission survives a plane crash in whiteout conditions in the Tian Shan mountains. The men are accustomed to danger. Now they’re growing accustomed to fear.
Team leader Liev and his band of survivors are stranded in the bitter winds with little hope of rescue—or outlasting the wolves that have scented blood. In the distance is the apparent sanctuary of an abandoned stone fortress. That an ancient bulwark even exists on this forsaken summit is beyond comprehension. So is what lies on the other side of its walls.
From Academy Award–winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Falling Down, part one of The Boy in the Iron Box, a blood-chilling series of short stories about an ancient secret that was never meant to be unleashed, featuring exclusive interior artwork. Each can be read or listened to in one breathless sitting.

This was an action packed little serial horror novella; a quick read when I didn‘t have my book with me. Each of the six sections was around 20 - 40 pages.
At first I thought it might be part of the world of The Strain series but it wasn‘t.
It felt a little like a James Rollins novel with the action and pacing, which I enjoy.
Not perfectly written but fun.

This was a free short story for Amazon Prime members. A group of mercenaries crash in China mountains, facing limited chance of rescue. To escape wolves they enter a labyrinth with a deep well in the middle. There appears to be a box at the bottom. And it ends. This was clearly bait to buy the next books. But I felt no attachment and the title tells me it‘s going to be a boy in the box. So thanks but no thanks

This is interesting and well written. My only complaint is that it is in 6 parts, so that takes away from my experience. I did like this first part, and liked the descriptions of the plane crash and the icy wilderness.

Currently reading, Amazon Prime's free short story this month. Sounds interesting.
