Laugh Again: Experience Outrageous Joy | Charles R. Swindoll
8 posts | 1 read
Did you hear the one about the Christian who couldn't keep from laughing? Chuck Swindoll has not only heard it, he tells it in this delightful book that gives us permission to be happy again. "When did life stop being funny?" Swindoll asks. His answer is found in this best-selling book which speaks to all busy, joy-drained people?from the pressured businessman to the harried homemaker. In Laugh Again, readers will discover ways to live in the present, say "no" to negativism, and realize that, while no one's life is perfect, joy and humor can be inspirational. Let Chuck Swindoll show you how to experience outrageous joy . . . and learn to laugh again!

I just realized something. The reason this book didn‘t help me is because I already know how to be happy. If I get sad, I know how to cheer myself up. Sometimes, you don‘t have to read a book if you know what to do. I feel like this book said a lot of things that I already knew like the fact that you have to pursue joy and that you‘ll be happier if you have friends because we all need each other.

Here‘s my review for a book I just DNF‘d. I‘m counting this book for #bookspinbingo as a DNF and I‘m getting this one off of my physical TBR. I‘m donating the physical book to Goodwill. Maybe someone else will get more out of reading it than I did.

I made more progress in this book today when I was walking with my dog at the dog park. I only listened to 1 chapter but I skipped some of it when he started telling stories about himself. I only want to listen to 3 preachers tell stories while they‘re preaching: Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer and Steven Furtick but that‘s because I like how they tell stories. I don‘t like the way this guy tells stories.

I made more progress in this book and I figured out that I can fast forward if I find myself getting bored and wanting to skim. I was listening to a chapter in this book. I like the parts where he‘s preaching but when he‘s telling stories about himself, I find it boring. Every time he started telling a story, I skipped ahead to the Bible verses and I didn‘t feel like I missed very much so I‘m going to keep doing that.

Here‘s how I did on the #20in4 readathon that was from 5/31/24-6/3/24. I finished a book I started as a mood read last month for #readyourkindle and I started the tagged book from my #bookspinbingo list for this month. I‘m not going to finish the tagged book before the readathon ends but at least I‘ve started it.

I just started this book. It‘s interesting so far. I just realized that I recognize the narrator‘s voice because I heard him on Christian radio a long time ago. Every time the radio went to commercial break, a segment from a Christian organization called Focus On The Family came on and it was always his voice that I heard. I searched on Facebook‘s AI program and it said that he has worked with Focus On The Family. That‘s why I recognize his voice.

Here‘s my #bookspin picks for this month since the numbers were drawn. #17 is a nonfiction book about joy and laughing. I hope it will be encouraging and make me laugh. The book I‘m currently reading is very depressing. #6 is The Stockbroker‘s Clerk by Arthur Conan Doyle which is the third story I‘ll be reading for the #noplacelikeholmes readalong. I‘ve been enjoying hanging out with Holmes and Watson.

In March, these were my #bookspin and #doublespin picks. Book 2 was my #bookspin pick and Book 17 was my #doublespin pick. I DNF‘d my #bookspin pick but I didn‘t read my #doublespin pick so I‘ve added it to my list again this month.
