Die A Littletells the story of Lora King, a schoolteacher, and her brother Bill, a junior investigator with the district attorney's office. Lora's comfortable, suburban life is jarringly disrupted when Bill falls in love and marries a glamorous yet mysterious young woman named Alice Steele, a Hollywood wardrobe assistant. Lora soon begins to suspect that things aren't all they seem with Alice. Spurred on by inconsistencies in Alice's personal history, Lora finds herself lured into the dark alleys and mean streets of seamy Los Angeles. She uncovers a shadowy world of drugs, prostitution, and ultimately, murder. But the deeper Lora digs to uncover Alice's secrets, the more her own life begins to resemble Alice's sinister past - and present.

I liked the concept of this. It really captured the old Hollywood feel very well and had a lot of different strong aspects of the trope. I thought for a short book that I was a bit dry and felt long which is possibly because of the style in which it was written. Not bad, but I was hoping it would be a little more exciting and suspenseful. #booked2020 #setinhollywood

Cinfhen The cover screams Old Hollywood though 🤩 5y

Love noir (both in film and books) and Megan Abbott‘s tribute to classic noir with this fun crime story was great!

How do I tell my reading companion that I have to get up and get more coffee so I can finish the last few pages of my book? #catsoflitsy #catdilemmas

It‘s 1954. What‘s a nice school teacher from Pasadena supposed to do when it seems her straight-arrow little brother has gotten himself hitched to the wrong dame? Why, investigate, of course! What could possibly go wrong?
Megan Abbott writes noir without cliche, in language which always seems to me to be almost poetic.

I love Megan Abbott‘s early noir novels! I know a lot of people have discovered her through her newer books but I like the older ones better. This one is set in Los Angeles in the 1950s...yes please!! 😊 #noir #losangelesnoir

vivastory I've only read her newer ones. Will definitely have to check theses out 7y
AlaMich @vivastory Do, and don‘t let the pink cover of Queenpin put you off! 😊 7y

It is simple as this: she has a complicated life and her clothes can't help but show it. It is all part of her unique disheveled glamour.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 This was a lovely and very dark noir tale that, if it hadn't been published in the 21st century, I'm certain Alfred Hitchcock would have loved to adapt into a film or a series episode. Lora is an unreliable narrator in the sense that she is naive to the point that she doesn't have a clear perception of what is happening around her. This story is so LA and so very chic and gritty all at once. Plus I love the cover art! 4 ✨s

I'm not really sure what all happened in this one. Good summer beach read.
