This is a novel set in the Civil War and shortly thereafter. Louella is a slave who has been freed and married to the honorable Reverend William. She wants to lead the people off the plantation and have a place where everyone is treated equally and respectfully. This is their journey to outside of Asheville, NC to a place that they call the Kingdom of Happy Land. This story is based off a true story.

Book 21 of the year.

I‘m thrilled to be a part of the @nchumanities North Carolina reads program. This is my second year as I loved last year so much! I love reading books either set in North Carolina or by North Carolina authors.
