10 posts | 12 read | 3 to read
"A satisfying, brilliant sequel, solidifying Steinkellner's reputation as a graphic novelist to watch." --School Library Journal (starred review) In this hilarious and heartwarming sequel to the bestselling and critically acclaimed graphic novel, The Okay Witch, half-witch Moth Hush uses magic to boost her confidence with disastrous results--perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Molly Ostertag! Moth Hush is starting to settle into her newfound witch heritage and powers, but life at school continues to be rough. Even her best friend, Charlie, doesn't entirely understand what it's like for her to always be the one who gets mocked, and things only get worse when Moth's mom starts dating one of the dorkiest teachers in the school! Then Moth gets hold of a mysterious charm that can unleash another version of herself--one who is confident, cool, and extremely popular. What could possibly go wrong?

This is a great book for upper elementary students. The character is in eighth grade and would be good for students going into, or currently in middle school. This would be a good book to use in a book club or allow students to read independently. It is important to allow students to read books they are interested in, to help get them to read more frequently. This is a book that many students may be interested in at this age level.

This graphic novel is also a speculative fiction book. It is about a girl who is not-so-normal, but trying to act normal at school. Moth Hush has recently uncovered her powers, but even her best friend doesn't understand entirely what it is like. On top of all this, she has to deal with her mom dating one of her teachers.

Another fun adventure! Moth takes on bullying, white privilege (in the form of witches vs hunters with implied history of racism), and just trying to fit in while being yourself (or not), which leads her to try dangerous magics the grownups won‘t take the time to explain properly. The characters continue to be a delight, and I love the artist‘s style. #comics

I was in the middle of reading this through Libby in October when my Ipad decided to die. I never got to finish but then I found it in hard copy at my library. So glad because I really enjoy this series all about positivity and acceptance. I think the first volume was better but I will continue the series.

TheSpineView Glad you got to finish! 🤩📖📚 3y

This series is great! I liked the first better, but there‘s so much good stuff in this installment that it was close. Moth has been bullied her whole life and this story shows her trying some different ways of dealing with it, and I LOVE the last bit. The okay witch is definitely better than okay. #SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView

Wow, book 2 was better than book 1. There are so many things kids will see themselves in. Whether it‘s dealing with bullies, and the people that let bullies get away with bullies. It‘s about learning to be and love yourself for who you are. The illustrations are just perfect.

A delightful MG graphic novel about fitting in, friendship, and believing in yourself. The story is filled with magic, a talking cat, more magic, and even a hint—okay, more than a hint—of danger. The characters are engaging and the art is fun. Best of all, if you haven‘t read the first book in the series, this one includes a brief synopsis of what happened in The Okay Witch so readers are all caught up. A quick, fun read. On sale 7/6/21.
