Exhibit: A Novel | R. O. Kwon
3 posts | 4 read | 3 to read
From bestselling author R. O. Kwon, an exhilarating, blazing hot novel about a woman caught between her desires and her life. At a lavish party in the hills outside of San Francisco, Jin Han meets Lidija Jung and nothing will ever be the same for either woman. A brilliant young photographer, Jin is at a crossroads in her work, in her marriage to her college love Phillip, and in who she is and who she wants to be. Lidija is an alluring, injured world-class ballerina on hiatus from her ballet company under mysterious circumstances. Drawn to each other by their intense artistic drives, the two women talk all night. Cracked open, Jin finds herself telling Lidija about a old familial curse, breaking a lifelong promise. She's been told that if she doesnt keep the curse a secret, she risks losing everything; death and ruin could lie ahead. As Jin and Lidija become more entangled, they realize they share more than the ferocity of their ambition, and begin to explore hidden desires. Something is ignited in Jin: her art, her body, and her sense of self irrevocably changed. But can she avoid the specter of the curse? Vital, bold, powerful, and deeply moving, Exhibit asks: how brightly can you burn before you light your life on fire?

Bailedbailed

I read about a third but the first person narrative was all over the place and I couldn‘t keep up. It honestly made me feel dizzy.

Mehso-so

Unfortunately, this was just okay. I loved The Incendiaries, and while this incorporated characters and places from that book, it just didn‘t click for me.

Jin is married to Patrick, but they both have different goals. Patrick suddenly wants children while Jin wants to experiment sexually. While this is the central conflict of the book, I got little sense of their relationship. When an injured dancer meets Jin, sparks fly.

squirrelbrain Meh 🫤- I have the ARC of this, but at least I didn‘t buy it, I suppose! 6mo
BarbaraBB That is too bad. I loved The Incendiaries too. Now I am in no hurry to read this sequel. 6mo
Megabooks @squirrelbrain yeah, I was expecting better. Should‘ve gone with a library copy. 6mo

sarahbarnes Oh man, this one sounded good. Maybe I‘ll read The Incendiaries first. Bummer that you didn‘t think this was very good. 6mo
Megabooks @sarahbarnes I‘d definitely prioritize Incendiaries. I hope you enjoy it! 6mo

@BarbaraBB what would I do if we hadn‘t met? For sure, my life would be a lot duller and less vibrant (and I‘d know fewer Dutch words)! 😘 All the love on your six-year litsyversary!! 💜🫶🏻 #BBGiveaway

I was so excited to see that RO Kwon finally has another coming out in 2024! I think you liked The Incendiaries, too!
